Fly Fishing
Resort
My brother,
Bob, is a true fly fishing lover. After work every
night, if he could, he would grab his fly fishing gear and
his son, Andrew, and head for the nearest fly fishing hole
to catch whatever lives in that particular body of
water. The
few weeks a year that he will actually take some vacation
time, he will head for more serious fly fishing spots such
as the Lake Hubbard fly fishing Resort in
Michigan.
Hubbard
Lake is Michigan’s 2nd largest inland lake. It is beautiful
and scenic and full of history. It is known for having the
most scenic views in North America. It is well stocked with
bass, yellow perch, northern pike, tiger muskie, trout and
walleye. Not only is it a popular fly fishing destination in
the summer it is also widely visited in the winter for ice
fly fishing.
Of all the
fish my brother, Bob, has caught while visiting the Lake
Hubbard fly fishing Resort, I would say the walleye is the
most interesting. It is a northern cold
water fish that has very large eyes, hence the name
“walleye.” Its eyes reflect the
light which gives it almost perfect vision in dark and murky
waters. It
feeds mostly at night which is the best time to try to catch
one of these unusual and rare fish. About the only
time during daylight that you could try to catch the walleye
would be if it was to become cloudy and windy and the lake
water would become choppy. The fishermen who
frequent the lake call this the “walleye
chop.” These
large eyed fish love to feed when the water is rough and
dark. The beat the other
fish to the bait offered due to their incredible vision.
I better
stop with the fly fishing tips… I don’t want to give away
all of Bob’s fly fishing secrets.
Lake
Hubbard offers some of the most majestic views in North
America. The area surrounding the Lake Hubbard fly fly
fishing lodge has grown tremendously over the years. There
is much to see and do for the whole family. Golfing,
shopping, and kid friendly activities are all nearby.
